  A website is a group of web pages, such as the one you are viewing now. Websites typically include a homepage, are normally found on the same server, and are prepared and maintained as a compilation of information. Websites are usually owned and managed by an individual, company or organization and are dedicated to a singe subject or several correlated topics.  In laymen’s terms, a website is any page that you see when youweb-development browse the internet.

Every new screen you see is a new web page.  Whether you click on a link, type in a web address, or put a query in a search engine a web page is the result.
A web page can contain any type of information, and can include text, color, graphics, animatronics and audio. You can have many websites that cross-link to files on each others’ sites or even share the same files. A website can consist of one page, or of tens of thousands of pages, depending on what the site owner is trying to achieve. Generally, people look at websites for two main reasons: to complete an assignment or to locate information they require.

The main thing to keep in mind when creating a website is that you are not creating the website for you but for your visitors. It should contain the content they want and be arranged in a way that makes sense and is accessible to them. A website is a means of communication, and it is only successful when its message is received by the intended user.
